This project was split into two parts; the first was to build a real life sized model of a cafe racer in a group of 5. We first of all took measurements using existing cafe racer style motorbikes. We then build the motorbike rig out of wood and other materials (anything I could put my hands onto) Once the build was complete we could then get the right seat height, handlebar height and width and foot peg height. All these had to fit us all perfectly, not just one person.
The second part to this project was to design what the bike would look like by ourselves. Using photographs of the rig from the front, side, top and 3/4 view angles, I could then use Illustrator to get the line drawings perfect for overlaying an overall design using Photoshop.
This project was an amazing insight into the importance of ergonomics in the design industry and how a person can interact with a product designed for a wide range of people.
